June 18th, 2021-schemes upon schemes – Genesis 27. Isaac wanted the meat because he wanted to feel pride in his son, not so much because it was so good but it was to bask in the pride of his boy. It seems as if Isaac was willing to go against God’s will because of his preference for Esau. Trust was a rare commodity in that place. Rebekah wasn’t willing to wait on God so she schemed to get her favourite what God promised him. Jacob went along because it would work and pragmatism took precedence over God’s word. Esau was content to accept what he gave away. Jacob didn’t stop Rebekah, he proposed a problem that would get in the way of her scheme.
