The main difference between lust and love is that lust is purely sexual attraction while love is both passionate and compassionate.-Insider.com THIS IS WRONG. People may lust after anything. The main differences are source, purpose and commitment to the object of a person’s desire.
Love is defined by many people-most don’t know what it is because humans qualify a person by the wrong criteria-man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart 1 Sam 16:7 (But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’)
Love is defined and its functions and goals are clearly identified in 1 Cor 14:7 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” If you want to love
someone you must follow this. If you want to know if someone loves you, judge their actions and words towards you and others by this.
List some examples of true love from the Bible and support them by these criteria.
Lust is used in the Bible in both positive and negative lights. The positive is used when the object of desire is a knowledge and desire for the things of God but we are not looking at those here when we say lust. The Bible describes lust in different scriptures. Exodus 20 gives us the 10 commandments.
- I am the Lord thy God: thou shalt not have strange Gods before me
- Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
- Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day
- Honour thy father and thy mother
- Thou shalt not kill
- Thou shalt not commit adultery
- Thou shalt not steal
- Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s goods
Each of these shows us lust. Please identify the ways lust may be evident when breaking them. (We stopped at the second commandment).
